Evolution Deniers
A new Gallup Poll on Theory of Evolution confirms that a high percentage of those who regularly attend church do not believe in evolution. Not surprisingly, since more Republicans attend church on a weekly basis than do Democrats or Independents, doubts concerning the Theory of Evolution are more prevalent in that party.
On the bright side, when asked “Now thinking about how human beings came to exist on Earth, do you, personally, believe in evolution, or not?” fully 49% professed a “belief” in evolution. Even among those accepting evolution, most (by a nearly 2:1 majority) viewed this process as guided by God.
It is time that this issue be reframed. Rather than characterizing evolution as a belief system that competes on a equal footing with creationism or flyingspahettimonsterism, it is time to call those who reject evolution what they truly are: evolution deniers. When confronted with unequivocal evidence, and with no other plausible explanation proposed, the continued rejection of evolution is little more than a denial of the truth.
